In the beginning....

This web site started our as a couple of pages on www.haganshome.com, in 1998.  The original intention was to share with other family members a few pictures of me and the ship that I am so proud to have served in.  An opportunity to show them what the Canberra looked like and some of the sights that usually reside on book shelves or in boxes of slides, in my closet.

As I began scanning photos and the pages began to evolve, of course, the memories came flooding back.  I started to search the internet for names of shipmates.  At first, it didn't look good.  Then I ran across, DUH!, www.usscanberra.com and their guest book.

The Canberra Reunion Association site inspired me to develop a whole web site, independent from my family site.  The Canberra Shipmates web site was born.

Since those first pages, the response from shipmates has been truly wonderful.  New ideas and new features, but, most important, bringing shipmates together again.  Sharing memories and photos to help renew ties that have been long separated.

My sincere thanks to Ed Huntington, Fred Girk, Bryan Humphrey, and Lou Richardson who provided early feedback, support, and encouragement to get this site really moving.  Also, a special greeting and thank you to Spike Parker and Ed Huntington (again) who, as Canberra Photographers Mates, were the best of pals and brought me into photography and changed my life forever.  Thanx, guys.  You'll never know....
